The Emotive Landscape

  • Shopfront Gallery 149 Beaufort Street Perth, WA, 6000 Australia (map)

This project is an exploration of the effects colour and abstraction has on our emotional interpretation of visual artworks and will be featuring intentional camera movement (ICM) landscape images which I have created, inspired by the photography of Andrew S. Gray and the abstract proto impressionist artworks of Joseph Mallord William Turner.

Abstraction removes many of the distracting elements normally found in images, allowing us to focus on the colours and tones which directly influence our emotional interpretation of visual artworks. I abstract images because it allows me to create intriguing artworks out of scenes which might otherwise not have a lot of impact, and integrate my own emotions to create more personal and unique artworks.

Through this series of images, I will be connecting my musical background with my passion for the visual arts. Amongst this body of work there will be some select images with contrasting tonal characteristics and colour palettes. These images will have accompanying poems and pieces of music, meant to be literary and auditory responses, helping to guide, enhance, or possibly even juxtapose your own responses to my works.

By experiencing this exhibition you will be taken on a journey, in which I will be guiding you in your personal discovery of your own emotional responses to the visual realm.
